About

What is GroundBase?

GroundBase is a maker community for embedded systems engineers, IoT builders, and hardware enthusiasts in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. We exist to give Uyo's hardware builders a home — a place to share projects, stay connected, and access opportunities that are often invisible to communities outside the traditional tech hubs.

The community runs across Discord, in-person events, and an online opportunity board that tracks hackathons, grants, and competitions relevant to embedded and hardware builders in Africa.

Pi Jam Uyo

Pi Jam Uyo is GroundBase's recurring event series, co-presented with Raspberry Pi. Each edition brings together hardware builders for talks, demos, project showcases, and hands-on sessions around a specific theme — from Raspberry Pi basics to microcontrollers, home IoT, and beyond.

The events are hybrid — in-person at Acceleratez Hub in Uyo, with a live Discord stream for remote participants. Pi Jam Uyo runs roughly quarterly and is open to everyone: students, hobbyists, and working engineers alike.

BuildATech Incubator & Workspace

GroundBase is based at BuildATech Incubator & Workspace in Uyo — a hub that provides infrastructure, workspace, and support for technology builders in Akwa Ibom. Pi Jam Uyo events are hosted at BuildATech's Acceleratez Hub, which provides the physical space and venue for in-person sessions.

Who runs GroundBase

GroundBase is run by Azeez Bello, an Embedded Systems Engineer based in Uyo. Azeez is a co-founder of AirChain and Haulink, and a Graduate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE). He started GroundBase to build the kind of technical community that he wished had existed when he started building hardware.
